Newcastle United transfers: Another midfielder could be leaving Newcastle this summer – and it’s not Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock has been linked with a move to Turkey.

Sources in Turkey have claimed Istanbul side Besiktas are in talks to sign the 26-year-old former Arsenal academy star.

As reported by The Gazette, Willock would be made available for transfer by the Magpies this summer now he is into the final year of his contract at St James’ Park.

Willock arrived at Newcastle from Arsenal for £25million in 2021 following a successful loan spell which saw him score eight Premier League goals in eight matches, setting a Premier League record for the youngest player to achieve that feat. But since becoming a permanent United player, the midfielder has scored a further six goals in 129 Premier League outings for the club.

After playing a key role in Newcastle’s fight to stay in the Premier League followed by Champions League qualification under Eddie Howe, Willock’s role in the side has diminished amid several fitness issues. He was limited to just nine league appearances during the 2023/24 season and has struggled to be a consistent starter in the side since.

Willock’s best moment of the past season came in the 1-1 Champions League draw away to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain. The midfielder headed in an equaliser to help Newcastle secure a well-earned point at Parc des Princes.

The former England Under-21s international has been linked with a move away from Newcastle in recent seasons with Premier League interest from the likes of Fulham and Crystal Palace. But now Willock could be offered an opportunity further afield.

Talks have been held between Newcastle and Besiktas as well as the player’s representatives over a potential deal. Reports from Turkey claim Willock is keen to swap one black-and-white shirt for another.
