The Newcastle United winger will miss a month of the season due to international commitments.

Park Seung-soo is set to miss up to a month of Newcastle United’s 2026-27 season after being called up by South Korea for the 2026 Asian Games.

Park will link up with South Korea under-23s in September, with the tournament taking place between September 15 and October 3.

The 19-year-old is the youngest member of the squad as they aim to make it four gold medals in a row. South Korea have triumphed in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Park joined the Magpies from K League 2 side Suwon Bluewings last summer and made an immediate impression on the first-team after linking up with Eddie Howe’s squad for their pre-season tour of South Korea.

The winger caught the eye in substitute appearances against Team K-League and Tottenham Hotspur to earn himself a start in Newcastle’s home friendly against Espanyol. A week later, he was named on the bench for United’s Premier League opener away to Aston Villa.

“He’s earned that right,” Howe said. “He’s been excellent in the little cameos he’s had. Today, he started the game and I thought he was one of our better players… he’s confident, can beat defenders, and I think he’s done really well.”

Park is yet to make his competitive debut as he spent the majority of last season with under-21s, where he made 24 appearances.

He is expected to continue his development under U21s boss Robbie Stockdale but is currently back with Howe’s squad for pre-season with several senior players missing due to their involvement at the World Cup.
