Sunderland favourite linked with shock Newcastle United transfer – Fabrizio Romano responds
Newcastle United transfers: Fabrizio Romano has responded following a fresh transfer claim involving a former Sunderland star.
Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water over a shock transfer link involving Newcastle United over the weekend.
Reports emerged that Manchester United winger Amad Diallo was a target for Newcastle this summer. Diallo previously played for Newcastle’s rivals Sunderland on loan in the Championship during the 2022/23 season, scoring 14 goals in 42 appearances and remains a fan favourite on Wearside.
Diallo has since established himself as an important player in Manchester United’s side and has recently represented Ivory Coast at the World Cup alongside new Newcastle signing Bazoumana Toure.
But as Diallo prepares to return for pre-season training at Manchester United, transfer narrative expert Romano has shut down the prospect of the 24-year-old leaving Old Trafford this summer. Diallo joined Manchester United as a teenager from Atalanta for £31million.
Romano posted on X: “Amad Diallo’s camp informed in June on Man United stance: no intention to sell this summer. Despite links with several clubs, #MUFC mantain they want to keep and trust Amad.”
He then claimed the tweet was posted on the back of the reports linking Newcastle with a move. Brighton and AC Milan were also credited with an interest in the winger.
Manchester United’s firm stance, paired with Diallo’s previous connection to Sunderland, make the prospect of a potential move to Newcastle an unrealistic one, whether the interest is genuine or not.
Newcastle have made three signings so far this summer with all three players being below the age of 21. Ewen Jaouen, Toure and Sean Steur are the three signings made by the Magpies so far this summer while Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali have been the high profile departures.
