Harrison Ashby Joins Luton Town on Season-Long Loan
Newcastle United right-back Harrison Ashby has joined League One side Luton Town on a season-long loan, the clubs confirmed on Thursday. The 24-year-old defender makes an immediate return to England’s third tier, where he spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan at Bradford City alongside Newcastle teammate Joe White.
Born in Milton Keynes on 14 November 2001, Ashby developed through the West Ham United academy, making seven first-team appearances for the Hammers before Newcastle signed him in January 2023 for a fee reported to be worth up to £3 million. A Scotland youth international, he has gained valuable experience on previous loans, including a spell at Swansea City in the Championship where he scored once in 16 appearances.
At Luton, Ashby will work under manager Jack Wilshere, whom he played alongside during his time at West Ham. The move comes as Luton, who finished seventh in League One last season and narrowly missed the play-offs, seek to strengthen their squad for a promotion push in 2026/27. Wilshere has praised the right-back’s quality, character, and EFL experience, while Ashby expressed excitement about linking up early in pre-season.
“It was rather quick in the making. I’m quite used to going out on loan at the end of the window, so it’s nice getting something in early,” Ashby told Luton’s official website. He is expected to provide competition and depth at right-back as the Hatters aim to challenge at the top of the table.
For Newcastle, the loan continues a strategy of providing first-team football to young talents who are not yet ready for regular Premier League minutes. Ashby has yet to make a senior appearance for the Magpies but has shown promise during his development path. Fans will be watching closely to see if this season in League One can help him take the next step in his career upon his return.
