Leeds United transfer news

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on their latest transfer of this summer transfer window, which is a deal that will swiftly lead to another move this month

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign Michael Zetterer.

Zetterer, 31, would be joining as an understudy to James Trafford. His signing would allow Lucas Perri to leave the Whites this summer, joining Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow as goalkeepers to leave Leeds since the end of last season.

Alex Cairns would be the only senior goalkeeper who remains from last term if the one-time Brazil international does depart during this window. Perri is due to join Torino on a season-long loan as soon as the Whites sign another goalkeeper as his replacement.

The Athletic cite sources at Elland Road when claiming that there is an expectation that Eintracht will, like Leeds, need to sign a new goalkeeper before selling theirs. Zetterer only signed a four-year contract last summer, so he still has three years left on that deal.

The Munich-born goalkeeper, however, was far from their first-choice for the whole of last season. Zetterer started as their number one before being displaced by Kaua Santos in mid-September.

He was back in before the end of October, though. The German then remained their starting goalkeeper until the Bundesliga’s winter break in late December.

Then, his Brazilian team-mate began 2026 with the gloves and only a medial knee ligament injury ended his three-month stint in the team. Zetterer, however, kept him as a substitute for the season’s final few matches.

In total, the Leeds target made 28 appearances across all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 45 goals. Santos, for comparison, let in 42 across 16 games, with just two shutouts.

The latter notably started their most recent pre-season friendly against Brentford. However, the former Brazil under-20 international conceded seven goals in west London as his deputy watched on from the bench.

One deal Leeds have done before the Premier League season starts is signing Brenden Aaronson to a new contract. The United States international has penned a three-year extension after an impressive pre-season.

Aaronson has scored against Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, as well as assisting Sean Longstaff with what proved to be the winner in the latter friendly. The midfielder managed four goals and five assists in the Premier League last term.

This new deal marks a remarkable turnaround for Aaronson. It comes two years after he was being booed by Leeds fans after returning from a loan at Union Berlin.
