Moyes, now in the final year of his contract, has acknowledged the need for further reinforcements. Yet they were denied victory by a stoppage-time equaliser, finishing 1-1. The late concession echoed the defensive fragility that cost points at the end of last term.
As the season begins at home to Crystal Palace on 22 August, expectations remain high. Stabilising the side after successive mid-table finishes is no longer enough for many fans. Moyes must deliver improved results and progress, whether through stronger performances, better recruitment or tangible silverware in the cups. Without a clear step forward, the scrutiny on the experienced Scot will only intensify throughout what looks set to be a demanding campaign for the Blues.
