Everton Turn Their Back on Jack Grealish as David Moyes Makes Shock Transfer Call
Everton fans may have to accept that Jack Grealish will not be returning to Merseyside after all. The Manchester City winger became a popular figure during his loan spell at Everton, with David Moyes openly appreciating his qualities. However, despite the strong relationship between player and manager, Everton now appear to be moving away from a permanent deal. Grealish recently returned to competitive action for City after almost seven months out with a foot injury, coming off the bench in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are now “shying away” from bringing Grealish back. Manchester City are still waiting for a permanent buyer, but Everton are reportedly unlikely to be that club. The situation could remain unresolved until later in the transfer window, particularly with other interested Premier League clubs currently prioritising different positions. That leaves Grealish facing an uncertain future as he attempts to regain full fitness and prove he can return to his best level.
For Everton, the biggest issue may not be Grealish’s ability but the options already available to Moyes. The manager currently has Tyrique George, Iliman Ndiaye, Tyler Dibling and Brennan Johnson competing for wide positions. Several of those players can also operate centrally, giving Moyes plenty of flexibility in attack. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall provides another option in the attacking areas, making Grealish less of an immediate necessity for the Toffees.
That decision could still prove risky. Grealish showed during his Everton spell that he can bring creativity, control and experience to the attack when operating at his best. Although his campaign was interrupted by injury, his ability remains difficult to ignore. The 30-year-old now has the opportunity to rebuild his fitness and convince Manchester City, or another interested club, that he still has plenty to offer. For Everton, however, the numbers suggest Moyes may already have enough attacking options.
For now, Everton appear ready to move forward without the former Aston Villa star. Moyes may have enjoyed working with Grealish, but sentiment cannot dictate every transfer decision. The manager has already reshaped his attacking options and could believe that strengthening elsewhere would make more sense. Grealish’s return to fitness could eventually change the picture, but unless Everton’s plans shift dramatically, the dream of seeing him back in an Everton shirt appears to be fading fast.
