Everton reach agreement in principle to sign Arsenal’s Christian Norgaard in £7m transfer

Everton have reached an agreement in principle to sign Christian Norgaard from Arsenal for a fee in the region of £7million.

Should the deal be formalised, the 32-year-old Danish midfielder would undergo a medical next week ahead of completing his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The central midfielder would become Everton’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrival of Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and the permanent deals of Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl, who were both on loan in Merseyside last season, from Chelsea and Freiburg respectively.

A move for Norgaard follows the exit of Idrissa Gueye as free agent following the conclusion of his contract, with Everton targeting a physical midfielder who can play in the No 6 role to replace the 36-year-old.

Norgaard joined the north London club last summer from Brentford for a fee of £10million ($13m; €11m), plus a further £2m in potential add-ons.

The Denmark international made 20 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side but just seven of those came in the club’s Premier League title-winning run.

That was despite Mikel Merino missing the final three months of the season through injury, with Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi and Myles Lewis-Skelly among those who were afforded more first-team minutes than Norgaard.

Norgaard had previously been a regular in Brentford’s side across six season, making 196 appearances for the club and helping them win promotion to the top flight. He captained the club between 2023 and 2025.

Norgaard would be the second Arsenal first-team squad player to move on this summer, following Leandro Trossard’s transfer to Besiktas. The club have signed goalkeeper Illan Meslier following his Leeds United exit and forward Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
