Newcastle United linked to £51m goal machine as Inter Milan midfielder ‘offered’

The transfer window has been a frustrating one for Newcastle United, but the Magpies are still being linked with many targets

Transfer targets are continuing to emerge at St. James’ Park. Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle recently made it clear the club’s ownership remains “ambitious” in their transfer pursuits.
Newcastle fans are in dire need of a boost having watched Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and, most recently, club captain Bruno Guimaraes depart the club. In his first press conference as manager, Jaissle made it clear the quest for new transfers is far from over, ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which begins with a home clash against Liverpool.
While Bazoumana Toure, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen have all arrived, there’s a feeling many more will be heading through the door. Chronicle Live takes a look at the latest transfer rumours around the club.
£51m goal machine
Newcastle’s link with former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has emerged yet again. The USA forward was reported to be on the Magpies’ radar all the way back in April.
Nearly five months later, French outlet L’Equipe has claimed both Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the striker. In 91 matches for Monaco, he has contributed 31 goals and 13 assists, with 24 goal contributions last season.

The Magpies struggled in the goal-scoring department last season with neither of the big striker signings, Nico Woltemade or Yoane Wissa, finding their feet. Meanwhile, it’s understood Balogun is valued at around £51m.
Balogun enjoyed an excellent World Cup which was perhaps marred by his unintentional involvement in the saga which saw Donald Trump call FIFA and ask them to take another look at his red card incident before they suspended his ban so he could feature against Belgium. Before that unfortunate episode, Balogun helped himself to three goals and one assist in four World Cup appearances for his country.
The Chronicle says: Chronicle Live understands that he’s not a target as things stand, though United may look to bring in another forward if there is scope towards the end of the window.

Frattesi has emerged as another potential signing for Newcastle
Newcastle have been ‘offered’ the opportunity to sign Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi. It’s been reported by TeamTalk that the central midfielder has essentially been offered up to Jaissle’s side.
The Magpies are still looking to fill the void left by Guimaraes’ painful departure. Another player to be linked with St. James’ Park is Aleksandar Stankovic, who has emerged as a target for the club.
Frattesi is a versatile star who can operate in various capacities in the midfield. He can perhaps be better compared with the likes of Joe Willock rather than Guimaraes.
Frattesi has been linked with United for the best part of a year and fits the price range, with a valuation of £25m, but looks to be off to Lazio. Joao Palhinha, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, and Real Sociedad star Luka Sucic are two midfield options currently on United’s shortlist.
