Newcastle have held talks over the potential signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. They are now preparing to submit an offer, according to Sky Sports.

The Magpies were in the market for a new midfielder during the summer transfer window as they aim to find replacements for Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Tonali made the move to Tottenham earlier in the window, while Guimaraes is closing in on a switch to fellow Premier League side Arsenal.

Newcastle have made some signings in the middle of the park, bringing in Sean Steur from Ajax and Aladji Bamba from Monaco.

Both players are under the age of 21, so Newcastle might be looking to bring in someone more established alongside them.

Nmecha would bring experience into the Newcastle midfield while also still being young enough to have a long career at the club.

Nmecha was hailed as world-class by former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann ahead of the most recent World Cup.

At the age of 25, the Dortmund midfielder is now in his prime years, and he’s established himself as a key player for both club and country.

That kind of experience and ability is what Newcastle need in the middle of the park to help their new young additions grow.

The Magpies can’t be relying on the likes of Steur and Bamba to make an immediate impact and hit the ground running, so they could do with an established midfielder like Nmecha.
