McInnes slammed by rangers fans after he gave excuses for why the players are suffering this season
Rangers fans have wasted little time turning their frustration towards Derek McInnes after another disappointing result, with the manager’s explanation for his players’ struggles doing little to calm the mood around Ibrox.
Rangers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Hibernian on Sunday, leaving McInnes without a victory from his opening three competitive matches. The poor run includes a league draw with Dundee United and a Europa League defeat to Jagiellonia Białystok. Rangers have conceded five goals across those three games.
McInnes insisted his players’ performances were not as poor as supporters believed. He pointed towards missed opportunities, a lack of forward passing and small factors going against the team. He also defended their effort, arguing Rangers deserved more from the Hibernian match.
Those comments have reportedly angered sections of the Rangers support. Fans who expected an immediate improvement under McInnes now feel the manager is offering explanations instead of solutions. The reaction has been summed up by comments such as, “And to think we were so glad when he came”, “Pathetic excuse, absolute bull****” and “This is embarrassing, how can he say that.”
The pressure is growing quickly. Rangers dominated possession against Hibernian but struggled to create enough clear opportunities, while Hibs secured a stoppage-time winner.
With Celtic already five points ahead, McInnes faces an early test of his authority. For Rangers supporters, patience is already running thin, and another poor performance could make the criticism considerably louder.
