Big Tino Livramento Injury Update Emerges as Newcastle United Chase New Right-Back
Newcastle United may have a problem they simply cannot ignore. Tino Livramento’s injury situation has added another twist to the club’s summer plans, while the Magpies continue to look for a new right-back. The timing is particularly significant, with the new season approaching and Newcastle needing a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. But is Livramento’s latest setback the real reason behind the club’s search?
Livramento suffered a calf injury while preparing for England’s World Cup campaign, forcing him to withdraw from the squad. The Newcastle defender subsequently underwent a minor surgical procedure, with hopes that he can return during pre-season. That will come as a relief to supporters, but questions remain over his fitness and how quickly he can get back to his best. When available, Livramento is one of Newcastle’s most important defensive options, offering pace, energy and attacking ability from the right side.
However, Newcastle cannot afford to rely entirely on one player. Livramento has experienced fitness problems during his career, and his availability has been a concern. Last season, he featured in only around 45 per cent of Newcastle’s matches. With experienced options such as Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth no longer providing the same depth, the pressure on Livramento has increased. Another injury could leave Eddie Howe with very limited options in the position.
That is why Newcastle’s pursuit of another right-back is becoming increasingly interesting. The Magpies have reportedly looked at Atalanta youngster Marco Palestra as a potential target. A player of his profile could provide competition for Livramento while also giving Newcastle a long-term solution. Importantly, signing another right-back would not necessarily mean the club has lost faith in Livramento. Instead, it could be a clear sign that Newcastle want greater depth and protection in a position that has become increasingly important.
