Newcastle United news: Harvey Barnes has signed a new ‘long-term’ contract with the club.
Newcastle United have agreed a new long-term deal with winger Harvey Barnes.
The 28-year-old scored 16 goals for the Magpies last season, the most of any player from open play in the squad. Six of his 16 goals came in the Champions League, becoming Newcastle’s joint-second highest scorer in the competition alongside Alan Shearer.
His form was rewarded by a return to the England set-up in March to earn his second cap almost six years after his first. And with Barnes having two years left on his deal signed when he joined from Leicester City for £38million in 2023, Newcastle have agreed a new long-term deal with the winger.

Barnes has scored 30 goals in 120 appearances for Newcastle since his arrival, though has often been used as an impact substitute rather than a regular starter. He did, however, play a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win in 2025, starting the 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has hailed Barnes as a producer of ‘special moments’, including a brace against Manchester City, becoming the first Newcastle player to score a brace against Manchester United since Alan Shearer and another brace in a stunning 4-3 comeback win over West Ham United. But potentially Barnes’ greatest individual moment was his record-breaking 102nd-minute goal against Leeds United back in January to confirm a 4-3 win with what was the latest winner in Premier League history.

Harvey Barnes reacts to new NUFC deal
Upon signing his new deal, Barnes told the club website: “It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m delighted to continue that.
“When I first joined the club I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more. I love everything about it – the city, the stadium, the people – and I’m really happy extending my time here.
“I’ve had a taste of success in the last few years and enjoyed some really special moments with this team. We all want more of that and I want to be a key player that helps push the club forward.”

Howe, said: “Harvey’s new contract is very well deserved and a reflection of the work he’s put in and the quality he’s shown throughout his three years at Newcastle United.
“Harvey is a player who has consistently produced special moments at vital times for the team. He’s calm in front of goal, whether that’s one-on-one or from distance, and is always a threat from wide areas.
“Harvey has vast experience at the highest level but we believe there is still more to come.”
Barnes’ contract is the third major contract deal sporting director Ross Wilson has agreed since his arrival after Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.
“Harvey’s record for the club speaks for itself,” Wilson said. “He managed to reach new heights last season on a personal level and that’s testament to the mentality and professionalism we see on a daily basis.
“We see him as a big part of our plans going forward, and it made total sense to secure his future. Much like we’ve done with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman in recent months, we’re delighted to extend that experience into what we see as Harvey’s prime years.
“Everybody knows what Harvey is capable of on the pitch his personality off it. Harvey has full focus on the season ahead and I know he wants to make sure he continues to build on everything he has achieved so far at Newcastle.”
