Newcastle United remains in the hunt for midfielders, and they are now linked to a young Bournemouth standout.

England international Alex Scott has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders of the summer after helping Bournemouth qualify for European football for the first time in the club’s history, but the Magpies face stiff competition from several Premier League rivals if they want to land him.

According to The Mirror’s Jeremy Cross, Newcastle is one of five clubs interested in Scott, alongside Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton. However, the report claims Arsenal and Manchester United have moved into pole position after holding talks with the player’s representatives.

According to Cross, Scott is expected to decide his future within the next two weeks, with Bournemouth valuing the 22-year-old at around €47 million (£40 million).

“It’s understood Scott’s representatives have held talks with both clubs, and that he will make a decision on his future in the next fortnight,” Cross wrote. “Scott is said to favour a move to the Emirates, but is worried about how much game time he will get for Mikel Arteta’s English champions.”

Scott enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2025-26, featuring in 37 of Bournemouth’s 38 Premier League matches as the Cherries secured a sixth-place finish and qualified for Europe. His performances also earned him a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England setup ahead of the World Cup.

Newcastle’s interest comes after the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, with the club continuing to reshape its squad ahead of the new season.

While Cross believes Arsenal and Manchester United currently lead the race, Newcastle remains firmly in contention as the club searches for reinforcements in midfield and the player fits the young-and-with-Premier-League-experience profile that Howe and the Magpies’ board seem to be prioritizing this summer.
