Forget Ramsey: Jaissle Must Axe Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey

Newcastle suffered yet another disappointing defeat on Monday night as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Everton at home.

That made it two defeats in their last two games against the Toffees, with them being knocked out of the Carabao Cup while also dropping points in the Premier League.

Matthias Jaissle will be taking a large portion of the blame for their recent performances, but there’s no doubt some of the players have also let him down.

The weekend’s results mean Newcastle have dropped down to 13th place in the Premier League table, while they’ve lost three of their last four Premier League games.

Being knocked out of the Carabao Cup was a huge disappointment on Thursday evening, and many Newcastle supporters will have been expecting them to bounce back.

Unfortunately for them, that wasn’t to be the case, and it was once again a comfortable evening for Everton.

There will be a lot of disappointment aimed at Jacob Ramsey for his needless red card late in the game against the Toffees.

Ramsey came off the bench and was clearly eager to impress, being booked twice while his second yellow could quite easily have been a red.

The players who started the game were much more disappointing overall, however.

One man who did start the game was attacking midfielder Joe Willock.

It was an incredibly disappointing performance from the 27-year-old, who has struggled to make an impact in the number 10 position in recent weeks.

Willock was a player heavily linked with a departure during the summer transfer window, and he’s now somehow found himself as a regular starter for the Magpies.

That shows the serious struggles they have in their squad at the moment. Either way, Jaissle should be looking to axe him from the starting eleven.

Newcastle don’t have a large number of number 10s in the squad at the moment, but it may even mean Jaissle has to change his system.

The Magpies are seriously underperforming, so maybe adding an extra deeper midfielder into the side is what they need.

‘Absolute nothing’ from Joe Willock

Newcastle World writer Jordan Cronin described the display from Willock as an “absolute nothing” performance.

It’s hard to disagree, with Willock barely making an impact in the final third despite being Newcastle’s number 10.

Jaissle needs to tinker with his system in order to find the right formula in the middle of the park.

At the moment, it’s clearly not working, and Willock is certainly not the answer to their troubles.

You could certainly argue that Newcastle needed to bring in a specialist number 10 during the summer transfer window, especially if they wanted Jaissle’s system to work.

Either way, something needs to change, and dropping Willock from the starting eleven should be high on the agenda.
