Bruno Guimaraes’ exit has now been confirmed, bringing an end to the long-running saga. The Brazilian midfielder has joined Arsenal, as expected. Now, it is up to Newcastle United to find a replacement for not only their captain but arguably their best player as well.

Of course, he is not the only quality player who has left this summer. The midfield has been the most affected, as Sandro Tonali has also moved, joining Tottenham Hotspur in a club-record deal for the North London side.

On top of that, it is widely expected that Joe Willock and Joelinton could be set for an exit at some point in this summer window. So, Newcastle United need to sign more midfielders.

So far, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have been brought. But they might not be ready to carry the expectations of a starter just yet. Someone with more experience and proven quality might be a good complementary piece to all the youngsters that have been brought in.
Newcastle United want Bayern Munich midfielder

Newcastle United have already been linked with one 31-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in the form of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. And now, it looks like they have added another name to that list.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have identified Joao Palhinha as an option in their search for an experienced midfielder to fill the void left by Guimaraes and Tonali this summer.

Palhinha spent time on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season. But he is now back at Bayern Munich, where he has had a tough time establishing himself.

It is in the Premier League that Palhinha has played his best football, largely at Fulham, which earned him the move to Bayern Munich. So, it would not come as a surprise if he is keen on a return to England this summer.
Would Palhinha be a good signing for Newcastle?

Palhinha would tick the same boxes as Hojbjerg. He has experienced, in proven in English football and would add a difference option to this current squad, which it badly needs.

Of course, any move would depend on what kind of transfer fee Bayern Munich would want. They surely can’t want a lot for a 31-year-old who is not part of their first-team plans at the moment.

Perhaps a loan deal could be a possible solution as well. We can only wait and watch how things play out over the coming weeks, with the close of the transfer window not a million miles away.

Also, let us not forget that there are other positions in need of reinforcements as well. One of them is up top and the Magpies have been linked with a potential move for a Manchester City player recently.
