Newcastle United player confident of finalising exit this week – Magpies soften stance
Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is confident of securing an exit in the coming days.
The Greece international has made one appearance for the Magpies since joining them in a €24m deal in July 2024.
Last season, the Newcastle United man was on loan at Sevilla and enjoyed regular game time. He had five clean sheets and conceded 53 goals from 34 matches.
Sevilla’s then sporting director, Antonio Cordón, confirmed in March that the 32-year-old wants to extend his stay in Spain.
On May 4th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Magpies prefer to sell him this summer, to recover part of the fee invested.
Last week, we relayed news the stopper wants to return to Sevilla and is waiting to hold final talks with the Premier League side.
U-turn from Newcastle United
Mucho Deporte claims Odysseas Vlachodimos and the La Liga side have been working on extending his stay.
Newcastle United, who covered a large part of his salary last season, have been trying to offload him permanently.
However, the goalkeeper’s strong desire to return to Sevilla has prevailed. This has been decisive for the Andalusian club to secure a new loan deal. In short, Newcastle United have softened their stance and are not getting the desired deal.
As a part of the fresh loan move, Sevilla will cover a significant part of his wages and have also secured a purchase option. There’s no mention of the figure. These two factors may have been key to convince the English club.
That said, it’s incredibly rare that Sevilla stick to a purchase option.
Their sporting director, José Ignacio Navarro, led the transfer pursuit, and the operation is close to being finalised. The Newcastle United player is confident that Sevilla will finalise his new loan this week.
Vlachodimos’ contract, value and agent info
The Greek stopper has two years left on his contract at St. James’ Park and is valued at €3m by Transfermarkt.
