Chelsea Injury Update: Rosenior Provides Key Return Dates Ahead of Crucial Fixtures
Liam Rosenior says the international break comes at the perfect time as Chelsea plan a strong restart, with key players like Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah nearing returns.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has admitted that the international break has come at the perfect time for the club, giving his squad a chance to regroup after a tough run of form. The Blues have endured four successive defeats, leaving fans frustrated and media criticism mounting, but Rosenior remains focused on the bigger picture.
“We are a point away from the Champions League. I’m learning about this club, there has been a lot of noise, negative noise, and rightly so about our performances last week,” Rosenior said following the 3-0 loss to Everton. “We have had ten games in the league together as a group, and we have 17 points. I think we are fourth in my time. Forget the noise, we have to keep our calm and our composure. An international break has probably come at a good time for us to restart and go again for a really good run in.”
Chelsea’s next set of fixtures sees them return on April 4 with an FA Cup quarter-final clash against Port Vale at Stamford Bridge. The Blues then host Manchester City and Manchester United in the space of six days, making a strong squad and injury management crucial for Rosenior.
Reece James: Hamstring Concerns
Chelsea captain Reece James missed the Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain after suffering a hamstring injury against Newcastle on March 17. Rosenior has confirmed that while it is not a serious problem, the defender will need additional recovery time.
“Reece we’re going to look at more after the international break. It’s not serious but there is something in his hamstring,” Rosenior said. James could return to action once Chelsea resume post-break, potentially boosting the squad ahead of the FA Cup and Premier League matches.
Trevoh Chalobah: Six Weeks on the Sidelines
Trevoh Chalobah also missed the Everton clash following an ankle injury sustained in the Champions League last-16 second leg against PSG. Social media images showed a worrying angle of the injury, but Rosenior revealed the situation is not as bad as first feared, though still serious enough to keep the defender sidelined for roughly six weeks.
“Fortunately it’s nowhere near as serious as we first feared. It’s still a serious injury. We’re looking at a period of about six weeks, which is a better period than we first thought,” Rosenior explained. Chalobah is expected to return in early May, potentially against Liverpool in an away fixture.
Filip Jorgensen: Minor Surgery Sets Back Goalkeeping Plans
Young goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen’s season has been disrupted by a minor groin operation, which has kept him out of the last three games. He was also left out of Denmark’s World Cup playoff squad. Rosenior says Jorgensen should return to training after the international break, possibly creating a selection dilemma ahead of the crucial clash with Manchester City.
“He had his scan and needed a minor operation. That’s a matter of weeks,” Rosenior said. Jorgensen is likely to be available for the April 12 home match against City.
Jamie Gittens: Hamstring Setback
Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens had been expected to feature against Newcastle but felt his hamstring in training, forcing him out for the last three matches. The young England U21 international is now unlikely to return until after the international break.
Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill: Recovery Updates
Central defender Benoit Badiashile missed the second leg against PSG due to illness and did not feature against Everton. Rosenior expects him to be fully recovered after the international break. Meanwhile, Levi Colwill continues his rehabilitation from a serious pre-season knee injury, with Rosenior confident he could return before the season ends.
“With an ACL, he’s hitting all the benchmarks he needs to,” Rosenior said. “He’s still looking at a good while yet. Hopefully [he can play this season].”
Looking Ahead
Chelsea will hope that the break provides the perfect opportunity to reassess, rest, and prepare for a challenging run of fixtures in both domestic and European competitions. With several key players nearing return, Rosenior will be hoping to stabilize the squad and push for Champions League qualification while also targeting silverware in the FA Cup.
The international break may well prove to be a turning point in Chelsea’s season, allowing Rosenior to restore confidence, reintegrate key players, and reignite a club that has seen better days in recent weeks.
