West Ham Sack Nuno Espírito Santo as Head Coach

Tuesday, 3 November 2026

West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espírito Santo, bringing an end to a turbulent 14-month spell at the London Stadium. The club confirmed on Tuesday morning that the Portuguese has left his position with immediate effect, with the Hammers sitting eighth in the Championship.

The decision follows a disappointing run of form that saw West Ham slip down the second-tier table, culminating in a 3-1 home defeat to West Brom. For a club that set out to bounce straight back to the Premier League after relegation, eighth place was not good enough. In a short statement, West Ham thanked Nuno for his work.Nuno arrived in September 2025 on a three-year contract, replacing Graham Potter, who was dismissed after a dismal start to that Premier League season. The Portuguese had previously managed Nottingham Forest for two years before leaving after his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis broke down. His time in east London never settled. Reports of pressure on his position surfaced within weeks of his appointment, though the club chose to stick with him at the time. The season ended in relegation, and while the board decided to keep Nuno on for the Championship campaign, doubts over the decision lingered through the summer.West Ham have not wasted time looking for a successor. Reports indicate the club has already settled on Scott Parker, a three-time former West Ham Player of the Year, and an announcement is expected imminently.

Whoever takes charge inherits a squad with work to do. Eighth place leaves West Ham outside the promotion places, and the new coach will be tasked with turning around results quickly if the club is to secure an instant return to the Premier League.
