Newcastle Fans Urge Ross Wilson to Immediately Sell Player Who Had ‘Stinker’ vs West Brom
Newcastle United supporters have turned on striker Nick Woltemade after another underwhelming display in the Magpies’ dramatic 3-2 Carabao Cup second-round victory over West Bromwich Albion.
The German forward started the tie at St James’ Park and completed the full 90 minutes, yet offered little threat. He managed just one shot, lost possession five times and completed only a single dribble. Fans quickly took to social media to brand the performance a “stinker” and call on sporting director Ross Wilson to cut losses.
One supporter wrote: “Wish Newcastle would just take a hit and sell Woltemade for whatever we can or swap him or loan him.” Another added: “Woltemade has had another absolute stinker.” A third observed that the 24-year-old “is not cut out for English football” and does not fit Matthias Jaissle’s energetic, high-pressing style.
Woltemade arrived in a club-record deal and showed early promise, but questions over his suitability have persisted under both Eddie Howe and Jaissle. Many feel he lacks the confidence and physical intensity required for the Premier League and cup competitions.
Despite the individual criticism, Newcastle progressed thanks to Bazoumana Touré’s equaliser and a Harvey Barnes brace after Isaac Price had twice put the Championship side ahead. New signing Amar Dedić impressed with two assists, underlining the contrast in standards.
Wilson has previously signalled faith in Woltemade and blocked summer exit talk. Whether the latest fan backlash forces a rethink remains to be seen, but the pressure is mounting for decisive action before the transfer window closes.
