In a significant boost to their summer recruitment drive, Sunderland have reached a full agreement with highly-rated French prospect Dayann Methalie on a five-year contract, according to exclusive reports from RMC Sport. Club-to-club negotiations with Toulouse are now advancing to finalise the transfer, with the deal valued at around €30 million.
The 20-year-old left-back, who can also operate as a wing-back or centre-back, has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout young talents. A product of Toulouse’s renowned academy, Methalie made his senior breakthrough in the 2025-26 season, registering 28 league appearances, two goals, and one assist in 31 competitive matches. His athleticism, dribbling ability, and attacking threat from the left flank quickly caught the eye, earning him caps for France’s U21 side.
Born in Toulouse on February 15, 2006, to Martiniquais and Malagasy heritage, the 1.86m defender has been with the club since age eight. He signed his first professional contract in 2024 and extended it until 2030 last year, but Sunderland’s project under Régis Le Bris — featuring Premier League football and a return to European competition — has proven irresistible. Methalie reportedly prefers the move to Wearside over interest from other clubs, including Newcastle United.
